Science Communication
As the Science Communication Fellow at MBARI, I collaborated with our video, editorial, and social media teams to produce multimedia content that engaged ocean enthusiasts, stakeholders, and science newcomers alike.
Multimedia
Video production. 360° video and virtual reality. Illustration and animation. Podcasting. I think strategically about multimedia communication tools—and how to use them in concert—to best highlight the characters, concepts, and ecosystems in environmental stories.
Writing
Speaking
Oral storytelling is a vibrant tradition at the root of science communication. I’ve honed my skills as a speaker by recording voiceovers, teaching oral communication, presenting science to a general audience, and even taking aquarium guests on a journey into the reef as a dive show host.
Who I Am
I am currently the Communications Manager at the Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment, where I work with the Communications, Web, and Events team to produce editorial, social media, video, and other content that connects environment and sustainability research to action.
Prior to joining the Woods Institute, I served as the Science Communication Fellow at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI) where I worked with our editorial, video, and social media teams to produce digital content that engaged audiences in the wonders of deep-sea natural history, ocean exploration, and technology.
I graduated from Stanford University in June of 2020 with a Coterminal Master of Arts degree in Earth Systems, Environmental Communication with a focus on multimedia storytelling. I also received a Bachelor of Science degree in Earth Systems with a focus on Oceans, Atmosphere, and Climate and a Notation in Science Communication with Distinction from Stanford.
I’m still a field scientist at heart, ready to jump into the muddiest, coldest, and most fascinating ecosystems to unearth solutions-oriented stories. My work experiences have given me the opportunity to explore multimedia production, academic field work, animal husbandry, journalism, internal communications, social media management, and more.
I grew up in South Carolina where I loved exploring the coast and guiding visitors through knobby cypress knees in the swamps of Congaree National Park. While at Stanford I became a certified AAUS Scientific SCUBA Diver and feel perfectly at home in the kelp forest’s frigid waters.
My favorite movie is Finding Nemo.
